Elena Beelaerts

Beeldend kunstenaar Elena Beelaerts is met Floris Tilanus oprichter van het Paleisje voor Volksvlijt. In dat kader schept ze evenementen als totaalkunstwerken, collages waarin zeer diverse bijdragen van anderen, bijvoorbeeld wetenschappers, kunstenaars en het publiek een essentiële rol spelen. In haar atelier maakt ze tekeningen op papier die kunnen uitgroeien tot (ruimtelijke) collages en installaties – of de laatste tijd:  korte animatiefilms. Ze gebruikt een vrolijk assortiment aan gevonden materialen. Gedreven door nieuwsgierigheid naar hoe de dingen werken, gaat haar werk vaak over sterfelijkheid. Maar zij blust de angst met absurde associaties en geestige transformaties.

Artist Elena Beelaerts is one of the two founders of the Paleisje voor Volksvlijt. With Floris Tilanus, in the context of the Paleisje she creates theatrical events that are total artworks, collages in which quite diverse contributions by others, i.e. scientists, artists and the audience are essential. In her studio she makes drawings on paper that might grow into spatial collages and installations. Driven by curiosity for how things work, she often deals with our mortality. But she extuinguishes the fear with absurd associations and funny transformations.
